T here’s a lot to love about the new Netflix sensation GLOW , from its perceptive take on Eighties pop culture to its very violent depiction of female empowerment. But while its stars, among them Alison Brie , have spoken of the bruises and beatings they experienced while training for the show’s various wrestling sequences, to some of the cast it would have been old hat.
While the majority of GLOW’s cast are professional actors, the show also features several professional wrestlers venturing into acting for the first time. Let’s get to know them.
O therwise known as Welfare Queen, Tamee is the most major GLOW character to be played by an actual real-life wrestler. Kia Stevens also shares a very similar trajectory to her character, having been an aspiring actress who then stumbled into professional wrestling to pay the bills. Discovered by Zenjo, the long-running Japanese women’s pro-wrestling promotion, Stevens moved to Japan to learn her skills, becoming fluent in Japanese along the way.
